COMMUNITY-FOCUSED BANK

Consistent with its Mission, Kompanion Bank provides socially responsible financial services contributing to greater economic and social well-being of clients and communities and environmental protection. In pursuance of the Mission, in 2010, the Bank established a special-purpose in-house Community Training & Support Department consisting of 30 accomplished agronomists and veterinarians. They provide consultations and free trainings to farmers living in the remote regions of the country.

We are happy to announce that in May 2019 the Bank released  a brochure called “Community-Focused Bank” that provids a detailed profile of all development initiatives of the Bank and what the Bank has achieved in 15 years.

As defined by Kompanion Bank’s Business Strategy 2019–2021, we will continue to provide both banking and non-financial services to strengthen local communities and facilitate their socioeconomic development. In the near term, the Kompanion team will focus on the Financial Inclusion Program for Unbanked Communities & Migrants. The Program will help foster a family budgeting and savings culture among communities.

DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES

The development team of Kompanion Bank provides the opportunity to complete an annual training in Farmer Field School for vulnerable communities in remote regions. We offer 20 trainings per year, based upon an ethno-ecological approach in two directions: «Ecogarden» (agronomy) and «Livestock Management» (animal husbandry). From 2010 to 2018, Kompanion Bank's team provided 20 460 training sessions for 45 735 community members covering 1 200 villages across Kyrgyzstan.

We also help households manage business assets (household plots, livestock) and natural resources (summer and winter pastures, water resources). By applying received knowledge and acquired skills, households can improve their crop quality and increase livestock yields, leading to increases in household incomes.

At year-end 2016, 63% of the households that completed the Kompanion training in Farmer Field School saw their incomes rise compared to the prior year.

EVENTS FOR COMMUNITIES

Training development initiatives are accompanied by annual mobilization events in the rural areas. Kompanion Bank conducts agricultural fairs, «Ayil Alga» development festivals, and the traditional Apple Festival. We invite producers and buyers of agricultural products, representatives of biolaboratories, nurseries, owners of pedigree livestock, processors for concluding mutually beneficial contracts and establishing direct market connections. The main goal of these events is to foster development of agriculture and market connections for strengthening the economic capacity of communities.
